An unplanned expat blogger behind Soft Island Mind

Hi, I’m Emily
I’m a project manager. a parent. An expat living in London, United Kingdom.
Several years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to United Kingdom wasn't in our long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial few months were intense — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Everyday chores felt more tangled than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built Soft Island Mind
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to close that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in United Kingdom.
What This Website Represents (And What It Doesn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on lessons from living in United Kingdom
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated when a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- A resource from tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in United Kingdom goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep sharing what we find.
If you have questions about family life in London or anywhere in United Kingdom, feel free to reach out.
Cheers,
Emily
